The BERNA Group was started in 1995 as a loose association of research groups at the University of Bern whose research deals with the structure and function of RNA and related nucleic acid molecules. One research group of the University of Fribourg is associated. The BERNA group provides a discussion forum for its member laboratories. Members inform each other about RNA-related seminars in their respective institutions and about national or international events related to RNA biology and chemistry. From time to time, the group organizes a joint symposium where the research activities of the member laboratories are discussed. The Group also helps to organise the annual Swiss RNA workshop sponsored by the Swiss commission for Molecular biology, SKMB.
